The only people I don't talk politics with are my mother and brother (they're supporting a bigot party) and my in-laws because they just get mad at each others and I try to avoid lighting the fuse.
Everyone else is fair game. I have a lot of friends with different political/other opinions but they're my friends because they can discuss them and argue them with people who disagree with them. If they can't, no point getting friends with them anyway.

I'll try again, although again it's not what I originally posted.
I find politics both boring and annoying. There's usually very little to learn from a political conversation. I mean, it's possible on occasion to learn some facts, but since politics is basically a power struggle between opinion, led by power-hungry people, it just highlights that people are petty and can't get along. I stopped watching the news because it felt like re-runs of a show with unlikable characters.
I had a job where two of my colleagues (who unfortunately sat in the same room with me) enjoyed having a political argument every day for at least an hour, at high volume. Once, because they felt it was a bit boring to repeat themselves (which they often did), they switched roles and argued the other person's side. So yeah, some people just like to argue, and politics is a great subject for such people. Personally, if someone really likes discussing politics, that to me is a clear case of 'nice meeting you; now if you'll excuse me...'.

hard to not to... politic and religion (thus morale) its a primary aspect of human life, always as been and always will. all the civilizations that preceded us and those that will succeed to us are built over foundations of shared views. same goes for relationship: sure, ties can be established with (nearly) everyone, but the most solid and sincere relationship are those that are based on concepts that go beyond mere romanticism and the postmodern concept of "friendship", beyond any form of utilitaristic convenience; they are actual kinship. the people with whom i share my views are like blood brothers to me. top notch mannerbund it is. tribalism to the core.
about dates, as you would like to avoid wasting your time and resources it would be in your best interest to know with whom you are dealing. idk you but i would not go after a woman who does not intend to have children because muh career/muh children are stressful/muh my body/ muh i dont need children to be a real woman/muh i feel inadequate for the role of mother, or that would be willing to bring our kids to lgbt parades or those class meetings with some child molester weirdos. so yes, "blind dates" are to be avoided, and it would be better to "taste the ground" before going for it. if it feels uncomfortable to ask a girl what she thinks about israel illicitly occupying syrian golan heights things can be deduced even if not expressed directly, and it might be relatively easy to place a person in the appropriate politic area, specially if thats your field. this aside, it should also be recognized that your views affect your behavior as much as your aesthetic sense, because the cover does makes the book in the end, and ideology's aesthetic is a thing. just by staying away from certain looks you can cut out a good chance of having a potencial disappointment.
enjoy some assadwave

I've often heard people say that religion and politics are taboo conversation topics for first dates and only to be brought up later into a relationship and even later in friendships. Do you agree?
I'm a student of politics so it's pretty important to me whether or not the person I'm dating or friend I'm hanging out with has some strange political beliefs. For example, I like to find out their opinion on the Syrian war and whether they think the US is justified in their bombing.
