What you think about Visual Novels on steam?

So I've noticed a lot of Visual Novel games on steam lately. What you guys think about this? And please list your favorite Visual Novel game if you have one too since I want to get some but don't know which one I should get.

I like Visual Novels, but many of the ones on Steam aren't the best examples of such.

Katawa Shoujo is excellent. It's not on Steam, but it's free. Long Live the Queen is pretty good too, although it's much more a life sim than a VN; there's hardly any story to read compared to a typical VN.
