depends, if the screen are just cloned from both, I'd say there's little to no added performance overhead on your GPU. But if it's an extended screen, then yes, there would be added strain on gpu but again, it is very minimal.
I've tested this before, and there's a slight heat increase of 4C on idle.
So yes, if it's an extended desktop for the 2nd monitor, it uses more power (proof on temp increase, hotter = more power by physics logic)

I have a MSI R9 290 Gaming 4GB and only game at 1080p on a BenQ 1ms pro 24" monitor but for racing games and fifa etc I intend to line up a HDMI cable to the large HDTV in the front room with a usb extension for the 360 pad. So I would only be duplicating the screen. Also so the wife can have the chance to flick over HDMI inputs and be able to view me. I did this before with my old HD5770 and didn't notice any fps drops. So does duplicating use a touch of power aswell?
I will just give it a test using Crysis benchmark and check for any performance drop from a run with just single screen and no duplication before hand. Also checking the idle temps and max temps for each situation.

Say your using your DVI to your main monitor for example and also running a HDMI cable from the same GPU to your living room TV. Does that use anymore power or slightly hamper performance or does it just use a little memory of the GPU? Just thought I'd ask, tried searching but came up with irrelevant nonsense.
