False.
FYI, that can happen: A Valley Without Wind had a keygen with valid Steam keys.

What? You excpected more from steam support? Also, it seems you got the key from a scammer.

You could always try to contact the trader to see what's up, then head over to Bethesda support. That blows though... :/
I don't remember Skyrim keys being exploited either... maybe he got it from some shody website which would explain the key being revoked.

It's not like you have much of a choice do ya?
Try to trace back the trade from wherever you got it, and see what's what. Also contact Bethesda support if you still have the cd key somewhere. If not link your Steam account, they'll probably tell you some more about the reasons and hopefully help you out. Hopefully...

Congratulations, you've been scammed. Or the guy who gave you the key. Trading serial keys is against TOS. Buy games directly on Steam or from auhorized resellers and you will avoid a chance of this happening. The key was most propably obtained illegally and therefore deactivated.

Trading serial keys is against TOS
Not it isnt. Its not covered under Steam's support umbrella, and you assume all responsibility for being scammed. There is nothing preventing me from buying a game at the local shop and trading the key to someone else. The same goes with buying from the Steam store and trading for paypal money.
Trading Steam accounts is against TOS, which is what you may have been confused about.

Something similar happened to me years ago when I won my first giveaway here, the guy who gave me Skyrim bailed out of the payment and so Steam removed it from my account a couple of days later. It sucks, but oh well. Thankfully he was banned.

hey, etze
I like your nick.
Something similar happened to me. Steam removed a game from my acc. They told me it was for a different region. And guess what? I had it in my library for about 6 month, I even played it. They told me that it was a sellers mistake. I've never got my refund. It was years ago. I hope you'll be able to sort this out.

Bethesda's customer service just answered to my mail:
Greetings,
I have never heard of us requesting a revoke? I'll compose an e-mail with all the information you have provided and send it up the chain. Customer support does not have access to anything Steam related, but I'll track down who does.
I am unable to give an exact time slot on how long this will take, but I'll update you as soon I as receive a response back.
Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention and if you have any other questions please let me know.
Best regards,
Bethesda Support

Valve have simply deleted keys before and thus the game disappears from the account it was activated on. I bought a key from ebay for Dead Island a few years back. My brother activated it on his account and some months later it just disappeared without any explanation. I assumed it was a stolen key or a promotional one with a limited activation period.
There are numerous reasons as to why Skyrim was removed from your account, but I'm fairly confident that it was revoked for a valid one. This issue doesn't come up often unless a key from a third party site is involved.

I reckon often its automatic. A bunch of keys get flagged and the system deals with that.
Considering Bethesda states they haven't initiated a revoke I think its safe to say that Valve got a list of flagged keys that aren't legit, yours happened to be one of them. Your friend got lucky.
If you're lucky Bethesda will clear this up and overlook it, but odds are that you'll be stuck without a resolution.

IF a revoke is done, it will be at the decision of the developer. Steam only handles the handing out of copies, they can't really control whether not a developer gives out free copies.
