I basically started emailing every place that I could work at, sending cover letters and resumes to the HR people / people who are high up in the chain, and eventually got a couple of interviews and a part time job. It's not much but with the part time thing it's probably much easier to find something else in a couple of weeks/months.
I sent over probably 150 resumes though... but maybe it'd be better if you could actually show up in person to deliver resumes to various places.

Yeah it depends on what line of work you're trying to get too, I suppose.

Here's how to get a job:
1) Get a loud ticking clock and put in briefcase.
2) Splash water on face before interview.
3) In a shaky voice, tell the interviewer that if you don't get the job something awful will happen. (Make sure they hear the ticking.)
4) Get job.

I had a horrible time finding a job. Granted, I'm not in college, but nobody would hire me. It doesn't help that I'm naturally a bit shy.
But I finally found a telecommuting customer service job. The hours are weird, the pay isn't the GREATEST, but it's a job. Hopefully, in 6-12 months, I'll be able to find a better job. Until then, I'm just hanging on and wishing I didn't have to wake up at 2am on some days.

It seems like even having experience these days means nothing anymore.
I was working as an automotive tech at Circuit City installing CD decks, car alarms, GPS, backup cameras etc. etc. Well after Circuit City went bankrupt and closed down 2 months later I broke my leg in 3 places and needed a few months to heal. After my leg healed I started looking for work and even with 5+ years of install experience everyone is telling me they wont hire me because I've been unemployed for more than 6 months.
So, you need experience to get a job but you can't get experience without a job and even if you have experience and have trouble finding a job for 6 months you will never get a job... The world is a confusing place!

If you don't already have a job, many companies consider you "unemployable", not just unemployed. Unless you're extremely, extremely awesome (which most people sadly aren't), then there's someone at least as qualified who's still employed somewhere and applying for the same job. And they get hired instead because they're employable and you're not. Ugh.

Directed at those who are college age and employed.
How many of you knew someone who got you in where you work? I have absolute bum luck trying to get a damn job. My cousin seems to get as far as the interview before being told "We are looking for someone with more experience."
And the sister of one of my buddies, who was just out of highschool with no work experience whatsoever, got hired at the local Albertson's I had been applying to for months. Just because her family knows the manager. -_-
It's a conspiracy, I tell's ya!
