Alright, so...I can't trade with anyone for some reason.

Common issue on Steam. Probably you, him or both recently activated Steam Guard (or one of you have it disabled), or are login from a different computer, or changed the password in the recent days. The only thing both of you can do for now is for him to send the gift directly through Steam to you or to your e-mail.

I've had steam guard on for ages, this computer has been used as a trusted computer the whole time. However, I did just activate a new browser (not the one I'm using for the trade), do you think this might have caused it?

According to their help site, it shouldn't affect anything other than the one that has been newly activated: "If you are on a newly authorized device that has not been Steam Guarded for 7 days you will receive a 7 day restriction from trading and the Community Market. Any other devices that have been authorized for 7 days will be able to trade or use the Community Market."

That's exactly the issue: it should NOT affect but sometimes it does. Since the rise of the security measures on Steam in the last months, today doing a trade in real time is getting really painful to do without all these restrictions and consecuences.

I have had that problem myself and sometimes using just the web browser it will work or if I shut down and restart steam it lets me until it does... steam is odd like that

Log out and in?
Every time i log in through browser I get error when I try to trade on Steam client. It works ok after logging out and in.

Here's what I did when I faced a similar problem.
1) Logout
2) Delete all cookies
3) Login
4) You should be able to trade now.

He can also send it directly to you (without trading) like the old method (sending a gift to a friend).

Not sure what causes this when it happens randomly but I read once that changing the "Custom URL" setting in your profile settings had fixed it for some people in the past. Or maybe it was a different problem with the inventory. I honestly don't remember.

Hello,
I've recently won a giveaway, and rather than sending me an email or gifting the game through the inventory system, the sender has attempted to start a trade with me. I've tried to accept it as-is, but steam won't allow me, saying I cannot trade with the user. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Marie
