How could this possibly work? The gifter always sees the SG and Steam profiles of the winner, it's listed to the gifter before the public (though it didn't used to be) - so how could anyone claim to be someone they're not when the gifter has the info already? Falling for this would be all kinds of retarded :|

i really dun think that's such a big problem unless people are foolish enuff not to check who won their giveaway.
That would be their own carelessness me thinks.

This was done before when the winner's name was public. They have no idea who won. so it is not hard to tell the person is lieing.

i just add the the winners from their steam profile link on the SG one, if they add me i open both and make sure its the same link.

They used to do this before, which is why the names are now private until redeemed.

Though, some people still fall for it. BEWARE

There have been reports of this before. This is why they block out the winner so they can't impersonate them and make it more convincing.

As long as you check SteamGifts first you shouldn't be taken advantage of.
