A bit ago I found my GFWL copy of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. When I tried to redeem the CD key, the game actually activated! Now I'm wondering what other games have this functionality. Doesn't have to be GFWL since this also worked with Unreal Tournament 3

I've come across a thread somewhere listing them. It might even be a thread here on steamgifts.

Please forgive me if I'm being especially thick tonight but does this refer to the physical retail gfwl games? Like if I went through my storage boxes, dug out my retail copies of a fair few of the games in the lists provided by messer's LagiNatoRRR & madsession and tried to put their cd keys into Steam, would they theoretically activate Steam copies of said games? 🤔

I read ages ago that gfwl was being removed from alot of games (not before time, accursed thing it was) but never followed it up. To be fair my personal solution to the annoyance of gfwl was GOG......🤷‍♂️.

Wowsers I had no idea about this, guess I know what I'll be doing on my next day off 😄. Mind you I've spent alot of the day thinking about how many games I've come across second hand over the last 10+ years and put them down as soon as I saw the gfwl logo 🤦‍♂️🤣. Serves me right for not paying attention over the years I suppose.

Your DVD/CD box needs to have the "LIVE" part on the "Games for Windows" banner for there to be a key.

Grand Theft Auto IV can't be redeemed on Steam but can be redeemed on Rockstar Games Social Club.

Caution: Rockstar will redeem a key for a game you already own and the key will be used and no longer redeemable.

Thanks for the heads up about GTA 4 👍, shame it can't be redeemed more simply via Steam but if there's a chance it works on Rockstar then I suppose I'll try, what's one more launcher......(Looks at right side column of windows desktop devoted purely to game launchers)........sigh 👀. That said I remember having an absolute nightmare installing GTA 4 back in the day so anything helps I suppose!

Prey (2006) used Triton. Triton went under, distribution transferred to Steam and the keys in the boxes are still redeemable on Steam.

Is think Magika Cillection is the same. I bought a cd and punched in the cd key into steam and it activated. Can't remember if it was gfwl
