Best dystopian/totalitarian themed game?
A pity I only have 1.9 hours showing on this war of mine and 3.8 showing on papers please as I mostly played them offline on the bus on the way to work :-(

I haven't played any of the games in question, but yeah, Beholder reminded me of TWoM.
I like the idea! Anything to put games in the hands of people who will enjoy/play them, right?

Two full survival plathroughs of TWoM to see all the locations and check if I could manage to save them all; and some unsuccessful runs (non-optimal) in Papers, Please. Liked both games, tho I just was not fast enough for Papers, Please, took me too long to get the money in for my family D: TWoM on the other was thoroughly enjoyable as a game and as an experience.
So if you say I would like Beholder, then you must mean its theme of a dystopian setting? Something like that? Gameplay-wise they differ so much I can't imagine you'd

Fair enough. I also noticed my message was cut off in the middle of the sentence, weird. Either way, a nice gesture ;)

Played and even achieved all achievos in Papers Please, but it appears I've done it in 8 hours...
This War of Mine, I tried to play it for a bit, but in the end I surrendered after 5 hours , it just wasn't for me :(
Whoever wins it, I really hope he'll have fun!

Mhm, if you say I'd enjoy it then I'll give this a shot. Only have TWoM and I've played it for 12 hours (finished first story and played a bit of a custom one), though I'll most likely go back to it since someone gifted me the DLC a short while ago.

I played This War of Mine for exactly 10.1 hours. I always want to go back to it, as I really like the theme and message. Yet I just suck in bringing in sufficient resources. It's really a shame that I haven't finished a successful run yet.
I also sucked at Papers, Please. Again I loved the concept, but my reaction time was just horrible.
I'm very interested in Orwell and Beholder. 1984 shaped me profoundly when I was only 12. I'd like to drop a link to Hidden Agenda here, which I discovered the year it got made, in 1988. It has a simple "follow your choices" mechanic, but they don't do such political games anymore. :)

Papers, Please captured beautifully (paradoxically) the dystopian atmosphere of that era. I don't think you can call This War of Mine a part of such dystopian games. Of course it takes place in a war-ridden city, but it's not what you would call Orwellian dystopia.. is it?
Anyhow I am only missing Orwell from these games so this isn't a participation comment ;)

You must be tired from all the comments and work.. I said in the comment that I already have the game (Beholder), no worries.

Played This War of Mine for 5 hours before getting stuck on a day where my people are starving. Meant to go back and reset (started tackling my backlog a couple of days ago, so I'll get around to it soon). Played Papers, Please for 4 hours and am currently playing it. Have Orwell wishlisted since October, all three are good games. If Beholder is similar to any of them, then it's definitely good ~

i played 39 hours of This War of Mine, its an amazing game. It makes you aware of what war REALLY is.
i have Orwell in my wishlist, and never heard of Beholder

I've played 32 hours of Papers, Please and unlocked all achievements. Been meaning to try the other three games you've listed, too. I'm very pleased that videogames have gotten around to tackling dystopian themes, as they can present moral quandaries in a more personal manner than other media; you will walk all over people's inalienable rights if it means getting a higher score.

Thank you! I'll have your back when the apocalypse comes!

I really enjoyed playing Papers, Please. It's an amazing game with something to say. A rarity these days. Unfortunately I still haven't finished it (I think I am about half way). Other things keep coming up and it's a game that requires all of your attention.
I would definitely recommend everyone try Papers, Please.

Not requesting a spot or anything, but I loved papers, please, 12 hours and all the achievements earned. The way it distilled the madness of a dystopian society into the simple act of checking documents at a border point was brilliant.
