Got this when it was on sale on Steam for $3. Now I feel like I overpaid.

FWIW, I didn't care much for the game. Pros: Relaxing, pretty, surfing feels good. Cons: Non-existent difficulty, pointless combat, world feels empty and is unnecessarily large.

For less than $1 I'd say it's worth a shot if you want something relaxing and mindless, but you're not missing much if you skip it. Might be a good choice for kids.

I had more or less the same experience. Though it's also a baffling element, that the movement systems doesn't work together at all. (Gliding shows you down, can't speed up in the water or land, only in the air by jumping, but the "baskets" and half pipes also fail to connect to maintain higher speeds. ) The basics are there, but it's noticeably has a "first game" syndrome with checkbox design and unclear goals.

They don't have to, they can claim it was clearly too cheap and that's basis for cancelling a transaction - so, they refund your money and you get nothing. Happened multiple times with multiple stores.

I'm going to assume it's about them being OOS of keys, not that the game got a really nice discount and a ton of people jumped on it.

Either way stuff like this is bound to happen, but I don't necessarily have a problem with this other than, if it's true, humble taking years to restock a key(which I don't know if it is true, I think it's just people missing and missing the oos multiple times in a row and only checking when it's oos on purpose), but if it is, that would be a bit of a scam. In a sense, they could just end the sale as soon as it's out of keys and say f everyone until next year when there might be a sale on it, or sell some extra for that low price, then have the dev provide them the extra keys, and in the end the customer gets the game for cheap.

I do also partly get it, in a world of constantly cheap games, no one wants to have $1 sitting around for a few weeks untill it gets restocked, because that $1 is mega valuable for them and they can't go to sleep without it or something. Like they don't have another $1 for another game to pass some time, or a huge backlog.

In that regard, I'd always say, if you know humble and other sellers bite you like this, why not just buy on steam, which is never oos. Why risk oos on humble which has this practice, only to complain about it later? I mean you know how it works, keys run out, humble has to request more keys from the dev, dev has to request more keys from steam, steam has to approve, dev gets keys, dev sends keys to humble, humble has to log the keys, finally pushes them out. Like of course it takes time even if steam responds with the keys in a day, which I doubt they do.

As an analogy, this new practice humble does where they can afford to sell games super cheap but sometimes they take a long time to deliver is the same as the practice of buying from a chinese supplier vs amazon or retail in person. Like you could buy from a fast store right now and buy some trash for $100 or wait 3 weeks and buy it from China for $5. The ones who don't know the trick buy from retail and have no complains cause it comes instantly or in a day, and the ones who can wait to get the discount get in 3 weeks but have saved 95% of the money on it.

I myself lose faith in humanity when we can't wait 3 weeks to get something after you get a great deal on something you knew could run out because of the system implementation. Like our patience is gone, but we have thousands of free to play games, shows to watch, books to read, and yet we'll do none of them. However patience, we have none.

To me this is the equivalent of necroing a 7 year old thread. Complaining that humble is out of keys every time. Like no shit, it's their business model.

The truth its humble bundle shouldnt be selling understock. They need to make a deal with Valve or whatever but this situation isnt even funny anymore. Is happening in every single bundle/sale from a while now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's really simple, if you want something, you should get it right away. If it's a bundle, don't wait for it to sell more than 5000 copies until you make up your mind. An reveal all your keys immediately. Any other scenario might put you in a situation when you won't get what you've paid for immediately.

You're right, but the main issue is, that this narrative puts the fault on the purchaser. Why not activate it sooner? While the multi-million dollar media corporation IGN (that owns Humblebundle) fails to provide the stuff they sell, while gladly accepting money.

We, the purchaser can mitigate some harm, but that always comes second. It's the uttermost importance that the first step goes well - they actually have what they sell. We wouldn't have to hurry with keys if they'd follow honest practices.

Given the current situation, we as consumers unfortunately need to take action to protect ourselves. It's not fair and although I somewhat understand why Humble is operating as they do, consumers should get the licenses they paid for instantly or at least be aware there will be a delay in key delivery. I'm personally OK with waiting for a reasonable amount of time, like a couple of days or even a week max, but I'd prefer to know this at the time of the purchase, not after I've paid. As a side note, I'm pretty sure people at Humble do care about customers and their charities, but IGN made sure they are understaffed.
In the end, despite the issues, I'm personally thankful they are still around and be able to provide us with games at decent prices.

This isn't possible, because Valve has no reason to do this between them and humble, it would need publisher/dev involvement too, and when you have 3 parties, it's easier for valve to tell the pub/dev "just request the keys as the dev, say why you need them and if we think it's cool we'll give them to you if not we'll let you know and you can send another request". Much less confusion, simpler system, but takes more time for us.

At the same time, I can't see valve issuing key's 1 by 1 as humble runs out. Also since they're not receiving any of the revenue made by publisher/devs selling on third party platforms, I can see why it's not valves #1 priority to respond to these key requests instantly or super fast, without doing some sort of checking to make sure the request looks right and appropriate and should be approved because as soon as let's say 1000 key's get sent out, they've just lost 1000 potential sales on steam they could take 30% of each transaction. If these are let's say $5 games and they are supposed to take 30% of each, they've just lost 1000 x $5 = 5k * .3 = $1500 for saying yes. Yet they do this with thousands of games anyways cause it brings more business to steam and they're hoping to cash back in from people later buying something from the store they will catch that 30%(although it's less than that bc now you got 2 games at 30% and on one you lost the entire 30%) on somewhere.

So I get it in the case of humble bundles that sell really well and sell thousands more copies than they anticipate, or when humble fumbles the price of something in the store for 90% and everyone jumps on it and they run out of keys but still honor it. 99.5% of the time this isn't an issue. How often did you buy a AAA game from a third party store and they didn't have it stock? I'm guessing never. We're part of that 0.5% because we like great deals and we collect huge libraries, so we can flex and likely games we'll never find the time to play as we get increasingly busier in life.

Never got an email and the support never responded. At some point, I gave up.

What was it? You sure it wasn't a free game you got by any chance? I got shelter for free from them a long long time again and it ran out and they never filled it again but I ain't mad about that. It had been like 2 or 3 years by the time I noticed I didn't reveal it.

Also, after 6 years, why not just ask for a refund? Or you made a ticket and it never got an update? Make a new one?

It was Meadow, and I am very sure that I paid for it - but it was cheap anyways. I bought it elsewhere later on.

As I said, their support never answered to my tickets, and I gave up - too much hassle for a small amount of money.

Then again, it's a service problem. Do I have to check every single day if keys are back on stock? Or run a bot/script?

Jeez, IGN CEO is partying on his yacht while we're fighting each other about this crap.

That people get the e-mail, they don't see it or see it and ignore it, then they wait longer, the game shows in a bundle again or somewhere and humble exhausts keys and needs more so they use from that supply instead of stashing thousands upon thousands of keys so they don't end up leaking or some bot figuring out some of them, basically attempting to do loss prevention, I'm sure they don't like it either when a key turns out as a dupe, so as more and more time passes, these keys that just wait there get used and go out of stock again. Some people have keys from what 12 years ago? Like what prevents a bot farm from running combinations looking for games like this. Imagine you got a used key for a game that's removed from steam after like 10 years, is it their fault? Of course not.

I see, my bad I thought you were on the opposite side. Yes for a $1 this looks like a relaxing way of passing time. We are living in interesting times where there's more games than we can play in a few lifetimes and sorting through what's the best to spend this time and money on gets us here.

Some of us have jobs which within 1 hour of work or so would enable us to afford to buy 1-5-10 or more games at this price, some people do make $50 an hour somehow so they could get 50 games at this price, but they'd still complain this one is temporarily out of stock.

I bought it on the day it was still available but keys were exhausted so I didn't get a key then.

I saw your post on the 23rd, checked my purchase page and saw the Wavetale (Steam) line. I revealed it and redeemed it. The other Wavetale line was still showing as exhausted. I tried revealing it and got the keys are exhausted, we will email you...

Got an email this morning that the keys are restocked. When I open the purchase page, the only thing there is an unrevealed Wavetale line. The line Wavetale (Steam) is gone.

I reveal the key for Wavetale. It's a new key, different from the Wavetale (Steam) key I redeemed previously.

I've also gotten 2 keys for Wavetale. I've used one. I'll wait before doing anything with it, in case something gets revoked.

Reveal, redeem, record, it's a good habit.
