I suppose this is the story, had a hard time to decipher what both videos are interpreting...

One of the apple was missing in the Thief's chest. Upsidedownman got a bunch of dogs outside his house, Steve got injured after chasing them away. So the Thief decided to help Steve to assassinate Upsidedownman in exchange for a Golden Apple. In order to do so, the Thief approach the pirate to come up with a foolproof plan. That's to lure Upsidedownman with the Apple, and capture him as a scapegoat. With the Upsidedownman, they freed him and told him to eat the cake. The cake (which I supposed) was poisoned to kill Upsidedownman, so that no one knew who killed him. However unknowingly caught Steve's attention on his favourite cake. In the end should be the Thief didn't expect things to go horribly wrong that Steve ate it.
