This is an iceberg that broke away from the main continent in the 80s. It was floating until not that long ago it made a huge rush out into the sea. It's entering warmer waters while reflecting tons of sunlight. It's a rotating mass of freshwater ice that will cause glacial lake flooding as it continues to melt. I do not expect sea level rise from just this one iceberg, but it's putting a lot of wildlife that live on these islands at risk. Penguins and seals. There is no telling the depth of the iceberg, only what we can see up from the surface of the sea. I proposed that this iceberg on its way out got stuck on the sea floor, causing sizeable seismic activity localized to its area. It's huge.
I found it on satellite!
