So the other day on an impulse buy I got a wheel support:
https://www.amazon.es/CO-Z-Estabilidad-Compatible-G920-Thrustmaster-dp-B0DBTVR5CY/dp/B0DBTVR5CY

I was looking at several of them but this one had chair wheel stop and that was the selling key point. It also was from €120 to €75 for Prime members. My bestie is a Prime member, asked him to buy it and send it to my house. It arrived today.

Despite it's apparent simplicity, it took me 45 minutes to assemble. Because I was trying to guess at what height or width or hole number I should fix the screws on. Everything is adjustable, but only two things star knobs, the rest is screwing. Surprisingly, I put everything at the right angle/measure at first try; maybe some adjustement after trying it, that's all. . So once assembled and cleaned my hands of the grease the screws came with (which is more important that it seems, but makes everything a mess), I only had to fix the pedals and the wheel.

It took me about 30 minutes to realize that the M8 screws that came with the support (of which there were plenty) weren't the right size for my pedals. I needed M6. It's in the first page of "cockpit assembling tips" PDF on the product page. I didn't know that. In fact, the pedals' manual states they don't come with the pedals. I'd thought everything would be standard and M8 size that came with the support was the right size. But nope.

(Theres a lengthy and accurate description of the process that took me 30 minutes before I realized the size was wrong; it explains why I took so long, but I don't want to write THAT much).

So here I am, sweaty, tired, sore thumb and index fingertips, and too lazy to open my DYI toolbox to see if I have such screws (I doubt). I'm even thinking that I'm not going to fix them to the pedal stand using screws, but another method which allows me to remove the pedals from the pedal stand without unscrewing anything for easier and faster storage.

Still I'm so FRUSTRATED I couldn't even try the support as without proper fixation, I can't use the pedals. The damn thing even has cup holder for handy drinking while driving. But it doesn't have a way to fix a pedal set without screwing the pedal set. Which I'll do myself with 4 screws, 4 nuts, and 2 wooden slats. Which I have to buy tomorrow.

I left alcohol past year, if not I'd quickly go to the store where I saw yesterday a bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced. It makes your cubalibre taste as jelly gum.

Sorry I'm also too tired and irritated to put a giveaway.

That reminded me, aren't cup holders really trendy in actual irl American cars? Always struck me as weird.

Well the last 2 cars of my bestie had functional, but visually discrete cup holders. His van too. And we're in Spain.

I haven't actually tried it yet, hopefully tomorrow. If I find it uncomfortable to get and put back the drink, I'll just dismount it.

I'm American, and I don't think I've ever been in a car without cup holders. If you get a drink, especially at fast food, you kind of need it to not fall over while you're driving, and you can't really hold it while driving.

Before standardized cup holders, people would put the drink between one's legs. But it would make your legs cold if it were iced, and possibly damp if water was condensing on it.

Or have a friend hold it.

Trendy? I'd say they're expected. It would be like not having a glove box.

What about not having gloves for the glove box?

I understand those contraptions are for sim racing primarily. I won't hazard a guess why there would be a cup holder if it isn't the trucker special edition.

You can adjust it to have a more horizontal wheel to play with ATS or ETS2, which I always wanted but couldn't as I attached the wheel to the table. There are also wheels and add-ons for farm machinery that would fit with this wheel support, tho for those I'd buy a more advanced and adjustable cockpit, not just a support.

I think I'm throwing the support, the wheel and the pedals to the trashcan, and get a premade cockpit just to avoid all these headaches.
Nah, not even a cockpit, throwing the computer too and begin to cultivate moss and lichens in terrariums, just before becoming Hulk and play with doggies.

Sounds like a villian origin story...

Is there no refund option?

I'm not going to refund it. It's pretty much all I want and with some extras I need. I just didn't think I'd need extra pieces. But I'll fix it easily, and I'll also fix it "my way" which will add even more value to the product.

The frustration was real tho. Unable to try it, looking as good and just for 2 screws I got screwed...

Which I don't have yet. Frustration level of the game before you can actually drive the car? 1-10, how much... 13?

That number is from a joke I read recently:
-In a scale from 1-10, what's your anxiety level when following the diet?
-Can I eat the scale?
-No.
-Then 13.

Argh just reading this gave me second-hand frustration!
I hope you end up enjoying your game time with it soon enough.
Also I was gonna joke "don't drink and drive" but good on you for being sober.

Here in Spain many still remember Steve Wonder's "Don't Drive Drunk" song.
But I don't drink alone, as in booze. Just water and a daily can of soda. I shouldn't, but I got rid of almost all my vices. I think it's mentally sane to keep one or two.

Heh I remember that song well.

Moderation is the key in most things and I don't think a can of soda every day is going to make a huge difference to your health if you enjoy it. A little bit of happy helps the soul and a happy soul helps a healthy body.
You can probably drink and drive on soda. Pretty sure :D

Oh, I've been there. Ordering something online and finding out it doesn't work as intended? That sucks already. But then looking it up and realising that information had been available from the start, and I have no one to blame but myself? That's gonna ruin my week.

That being said, it sounds like you're capable of making it work, so at least it wasn't a total waste. Hopefully the frustration you felt when assembling it will translate into satisfaction once you get to use it! :D

Before I got my current desktop, in this room there were more furniture made by me than bought. I stopped due to hands and wrists damage. But I think I can still fix a couple wood pieces to the frankenstein wheel support.

I'm sure you'll leave it looking great and enjoy it. Years ago I got one for simulation, very nice and functional, but I realized that racing or driving games end up boring me. I sold it months later, but the truth is that I do remember frustration when I tried to put it together, although in my case it was due to my terrible clumsiness.

I recently started playing Forza Horizon 4 and it made me want to buy a steering wheel (again). But reading this (and knowing there are other things that I want or need) cured me! I hope...
Anyway, I wish you a lot of fun with your new setup!
