Divinity: Original Sin
For the coop, for the interactions between partners, for the turn-based combat, that I usually find boring, and still had plenty fun due to the amount of tactics.

Played it singleplayer and I absolutely hated it. Every battle is a boss fight with POISONED STUNNED ON-FIRE WET DOUSED KNOCKDOWN SHOCKED CURSED FRIGHTENED ad nauseam. Even simple bandits are arch-mages with mininukes in their pockets.
And the quests are confusing to the point that almost every side quest requires a walkthrough just to know where to go next. I don't need a map marker to tell me where to go all the time, but some general clue would be nice.
Definitely not my cup of tea.

Really hard to say, cause I love RPGs, and I've played a lot. Also there are very different kinds of RPGs....
Hm, but let me tell you some Games I really love:
But there are many, many more awesome RPGs outthere. And I'm excited, which Games the others prefer. ;)

Shadowrun returns really? I thought Dragonfall and Hong Kong were way better than Returns.

I love Dragon Age series, but Dragon Age 2? Well, the characters are interesting and the story is good, but oh my god the overly repetitive dungeons. They literally use the same few dungeons over and over and occasionally reverse it.
I can't forgive them for that, and I blame EA for pushing them to release the game early.
So I still think Origins is the best Dragon Age there is (still haven't played Inquisitions yet).

Yes Dragon Age Origins is just a masterpiece, but I don't think Dragon Age 2 is that bad how most people say. In my opinion it's heavy underrated. I've had a lot of fun and can't stop playing it till I've finished it.
And Inquisition was really NOT my kind of game. I've played it a few hours and I was so disappointing that it nearly made me cry :(

Witcher 2 is great, maybe slightly weird cause of the graphics change (switching from Witcher 1 to 2) but it looks great, plays great, (some people dont like dodge rolling though) has an awesome soundtrack that made me stop and just listen to it in the middle of Verden (Iorveth path)The Witcher 2 Soundtrack - Dwarven Stone upon Dwarven Stone, so Im gonna be replaying it with the other path. :) I did slightly mod it tough, with the "CEO" overhaul for balance, "Better combat for EE with Darkness" difficulty, "better textures", "Dynamic HUD" and Modified scripts I think was the name of the mod that gave you the maxed out tutorial skills (it didnt really feel like cheating having those first few skills).
Also now that Ive read some of the books, it will prolly be even more fun playing it. :) So yeah, definitely give it a full playthrough. :D
Havent played Inquisition, but yeah I didnt really like the "console type" of experience that they introduced in Dragon age 2 (although I dont think I ever finished it, not sure) and the repetitive maps. DA:Origins was awesome, and you really should play a mage at least once in that game. :)

Oh that brings me back. Used to play "Basic D&D" -- the "red box" one -- every weekend at my mate's house back in the day.
And the OP did not specify "video game", so I guess that counts ;P

Skies of Arcadia
Super Mario RPG
Mother 3
No matter how many times I play SoA, it's always fun to start over again. SMRPG is a classic, and Mother 3 is just...kind of a leisure stroll through weirdness, heart warming moments, and nightmare fuel.

It's Paper Mario for me, followed very closely by the original Deus Ex.

Planescape is definitely one of my favorite games (the setting and storytelling is awesome). I played it in February, and the whole "What can change the nature of a man?", "Who am I?" really hit me hard since I dont have a clue exactly want to do in life (as far as a job goes). Also, stuck getting a degree I absolutely hate, cant (or even want) to get a job with, and all that while feeling like everything that I might wanna do needs to wait till I either get the degree or they throw me out.
Gothic games are my favorite of that type, I loved modded Skyrim cause you can do so much and the soundtrack and atmosphere were amazing etc.
Witcher 2
NWN 2,
Dragon Age: Origins

I for one adore Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
I'd also like to give a huge shoutout to MARDEK 2 and 3 (the first is just a prologue), which are pretty damn good games which, in spite of being browser games, had excellent production values.

Baldurs Gate 1 and 2
Lands of Lore (Throne of Chaos)
Quest for Glory (3)
Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday
Legend of Zelda: Link to the past
Wasteland (original, have yet to try the 2nd)
Dragon Age: Origins
Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
Elder Scrolls (Morrowind and Skyrim)
Fallout 3 (4 is ok too but didn't find it very compelling)
Mount and Blade: Warband
Borderlands
Dead State
State of Decay
Mass Effect
AC4: Black Flag
Space Rangers HD
Stardew Valley
XCOM
It's hard to choose just one, some are better in memory I am sure and have great nostalgia value but little replay value these days. There are many more I'm not remembering as well, but making this list had me looking up how to replay some of the older games. I'll have to try some out sometime and see what aged well and what didn't. :)

Arcanum.
I see it a few times mentioned here. But it is a fairly unpopular pick. But I love it!
Best character creation process in any rpg. I have spent a ton of hours just creating new characters. Not even playing them. So much fun!

I'll have to check out Arcanum sometime. I've heard good things about it.
-Edit saw it was on steam pretty cheap and bought it.

Heard a lot of good things about it. Ill have to play it at some point myself.
Id like to play Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 first, I just couldnt finish BG 1 the last time I played it, and thats the game that I`ve first played, but never finished, when I was like 6 years old cause of my bros lol.

Some might be difficult to pinpoint as RPG's, as they meld with different genres... but here's my personal choices ^^
The Classic
The Newer
A few more as well (like Ultima 6, Pool of Radiance, and Eye of the Beholder 1 + 2), but these would be my top choices. Know a few people who'd also swear by Planescape as the top choice, though I personally have never played it.

The only one really standing out here would be Fallout 4 I'd say.
Not that's a bad game, it just isn't a (Fallout) RPG anymore..way more an open-world-sandbox with settlement-building. :)
