Good day all, hope you guys are doing well.

I've recently become quite a bit more active on SG, joining groups and participating in events. This in turn has led to an increase in wins. I don't like to receive without giving back, which brings me to my question.

I am in fact still a student and as it is with most students, not super well-off. I don't really want to get dirt cheap keys of bad games. As you can see from my profile, I have been trying to gift somewhat well-known indie titles that aren't complete flops. So where do you guys all get your keys from? I would like to contribute more overall (within my means of course) and do want to try give decent keys.

Some good key buying site suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Summary: Check for game deals on GG.Deals and/or IsThereAnyDeal (ITAD). And rather buy from official stores, which include Fanatical, Gamesplanet, Green Man Gaming, Humble Bundle, GamersGate, GameBillet, and WinGameStore.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the discussion and assisted me :)

+1 for Fanatical

They have a very good £5 and under section

My currency is quite weak. However, this is not a section I had seen before and they really do have some great deals in there. Likely worthwhile trying to get one every now and again. Thank you!

Fanatical is good yeah. Just need to learn how to search for bundles better on there it seems. Thanks :)

Wasn't really aware of official/unofficial sites. Guess I've got some reading to do, thanks!

Official stores get their keys directly from developers/publishers, while unofficial stores (the so-called grey market) also get their keys from different sources (for example the reseller buys lots of bundles from Fanatical/Humble Bundle and sells the individual keys cheap). Unofficial sites had problems with stolen credit cards and stolen keys in the past but dunno how much of a problem this is in the present.

I did actually find that while looking up what the difference and potential consequences therefrom are. Thanks for taking the time :)

Just check GG.deals, you get all the best options there.

ggdeals includes gray market, better to use ITAD(IsThereAnyDeal) since it only lists authorized sellers.

Good follow-up suggestion, I've not used them before so I will get to it :)

Official stores and key resellers are clearly separated. And you can hide resellers. So how exactly is that supposed to be a problem?

Does GG have ability to add personal vouchers?
Does it sync your collections with Augmented steam plugin, or any plugin, to warn you that "you already own it"?
Or show best current price when browsing steam on browser?

Those are mostly why I put my collections and such to ITAD. But I never made GG account so idk.

Does GG have ability to add personal vouchers?

No. There are some general ones you can set up on your account, e.g. Humble Choice store discount, but no personal ones.

Does it sync your collections with Augmented steam plugin, or any plugin, to warn you that "you already own it"?

Synchronising happens on their website, but that's the same for ITAD.

Or show best current price when browsing steam on browser?

No, gg.deals doesn't offer an extension (yet).

Augmented steam has warning in steam games pages that you own things if it's part of ITAD collections. Like "already in Itad collection". Saved me few times from double-buys, but since I don't do impulse buying it's not biggest thing I suppose. And it seems to be slightly broken ATM :/

Personal vouchers on -5% or -3% are important to me tho. I'm bad at math and it helps me personally to remember too =P

But this is all just my own way to do things. I don't exactly care what people use, hope it doesn't come off as I would ^^;

Well, nothing stops you from using both sites. I do too, because of Augmented Steam.
It's not as if you had to invest much time to use both.

Do 3 or 5% really make that much of a difference? I get that Humble and GMG's discounts can be very relevant. But the 3% I had (or still have?) at Gamesplanet rarely ever mattered.

When I get individual temporary codes I usually use GG.deals. Filter all deals by the store with the code, use my other filter settings on top and then I can immediately see if there is anything on sale with a competitive price.

5% matters to me, personally. Money doesn't grow on trees! Well I'm mostly using it for any GAs I want to make or bundles.

But yeah, all jokes aside - mostly doesn't matter, I've been just sticking to ITAD and since I mostly browse via augmented steam it comes thro that. But yeah, in the end it doesn't really matter

Augmented steam has warning in steam games pages that you own things if it's part of ITAD collections.

Gg.deals offers other platforms as well (eg. EA app, Ubisoft Connect, GoG), so you could manage your collections there, too, but without extension it won't be able to warn you. You'd always have to check gg.deals itself. Thus, ITAD is better for your use case.

I don't exactly care what people use, hope it doesn't come off as I would ^^;

No worries! I use both myself and therefore I was just able to answer your questions.:)

I think the website / interface itself is way better than ITAD. ITAD always seemed very ugly, cluttered and shitty to use for me. On gg.deals i felt more at home and filtering / interacting with the site felt way easier.

But that's just IMO and own preference>

Yeah, ITAD had imho one single advantage: A better price history graph, showing data for each individual store.
Everything else GG does way better.

Nobody prevents from using ITAD and gg.deals in tandem. While ITAD is barebones and for me mostly useful as database for Augmented Steam (which I heartily recommend) gg.deals excells in almost all other relevant aspects.
