Because they're finally releasing it as open beta, which might as well be releasing it, as it's F2P anyway.

Wonder if this will result in people no longer trying to gift me a copy, or a surge of them since everyone has these copies back.

Dota 2 is basically F2P now that there are so many invites floating around. If you want one just go to the dota2 steam page and request one of the bots to give you one. I don't know why are they even make a huge fuss about open beta or whatnot since it's so easy to get an invite.

Next step should be deleting those damn invites once and for all. Every single day I see people trying to trade those, and some of them are actually lucky doing it. I've been told some stories about trades these trades.. just sad stories : /
