This is a question I can ask anyone of any religion. "Have you ever stopped to think how pointless religion is? You know you can believe in a higher power without needing to give a name to it and without all the dogmatic bullshit religions have dangling about them, right? it's called being an AGNOSTIC. You should try it sometimes. Also, it let's you think for yourself and it doesn't interfere with the laws of science, thus NOT making you look like a total dumb-ass in front of the people who actually know the Earth is older than fucking 6000 years".

Religion is not a positive thing. That's how to best summarize it.

You can probably ask how long he's been practicing their religion, whether or not his ancestors followed the same religion or have they converted from a different one, also, ask what makes it different from other religions.. A good conversation can start from those 3 questions and you can just ask follow up questions as the conversation goes..

Why would you ask someone about their religion ? Is this the way you want to define someone ? Nobody is defined by its religion (or by its lack of religion).

Anyway, religion is probably the worst thing ever invented by human beings.
There is no life after death, no god(s) to worry about.
Who cares about religion ? Religions only produces fanatics and terrorists...

If they have any festival or celebration where they gift cool things to their non-religion friend.

I don't mind someone else being religious, to be honest. Since I've always been interested in learning about people's points of view on everything, I tend to ask questions like "How did you get into this religion?"; "When did you start believing in [Insert something or someone here]?"; "Do you believe in hell and heaven?" among others.

However, asking about someone's religion is not a good idea unless they bring up the subject.

Some nice questions that i love to ask when i have an opportunity is:

• How do you think your religion would be affected by alien contact ? (believe it! we're not alone in this universe!)
• What if they were pacific? and aggressive?
• What if they had technology far beyond our actual comprehension?

None. Feel free to believe in whatever you like, as long as you're not trying to bug me with your religious ideas, I will not bug you with my atheist ones.

Anything really, assuming you are talking to a normal person and not some kind of extremist. Dialogue between people with different views of the world is constructive for both parts involved.
edit: Then again, religion and politics are generally a big no-no on non-dedicated forums, so here I would not open threads like this in the future.
