I guess after all these years I don't spend time with the memories of 9/11 any more. I'm a New Yorker, so I'll never forget it. But it's a relief to move past the time of active grieving. Which has nothing to do with anything, really, except that this is that day, and it happened, and it became part of my life, and here we all are. Good luck!

Hey, Linus. I was living on Long Island then, and still vividly remember the day, the news reports coming in, the smell of the aftermath that lingered for weeks, and my former classmates who were volunteer firefighters that gave their lives in the rescue efforts to save others. Some things get etched into your memory and never leave.

Thanks for sharing. My Day Job was in the Red Zone, down by Bowling Green (where the volunteers staged for a few weeks after, and the city's chefs came down to cook for them), so we weren't allowed back in for a week, and then we lived with the smell of burning underground for a couple of months until the site went cold at last. It's so true: there are aspects of those days that will be with me forever.
