Chivalry: Medieval Warfare FFA deathmatch is my go-to antidepressant. The in-game voice messages are the best I've heard.

Strategy games - makes your brain think about the game and tactics instead of those "other" things.

I do agree about what you said about the CoD campaigns, but that is NOT a good thing!!!!! That's a dip-shit's idea of fun...

nonsense, if youre depressed, you really need the most basic, most easily digestible and most cathartic experience you can find, and thats totally what a call of duty campaign delivers. What you DONT need, is something with a deep plot or something that makes you think too deeply or for too long about things... COD DELIVERS!

Yes, because cover-based shooting (and NOTHING else), one-time usable game-play gimmicks, shit AI, boring set pieces, stupid NPCs yelling military slang in your ears and, let's not forget, RACISM are soooo fun and soooo cathartic... Are you fucking shitting me????? Nothing wrong with a game having a simple, stupid and nonsensical plot that doesn't encourage too much thinking, but in that case, said game needs to have some damn great and fun game-play to compensate for it. Here are a few examples: Bulletstorm, Borderlands series, Fable, Tomb Raider series (not the rebooted ones), Serious Sam series, Dead Rising series, all fighting games EVER, etc. Call of Duty, on the other hand...no...just..NO!

call of duty has lots of fun amusing set-pieces, that encourage the player to go nuts without thinking of the consequences, with a light tone and events that don't demand any thought or deep reflection, PLUS you're never shooting anyone that would give an icky feeling or create moral contemplation.. its the perfect game for someone who just wants to unload whatever anger, frustration or angst they have in a fun, consequence free environment... how is that a bad thing?
As for your suggestions... tomb raider? where you murder wildlife and smash ancient priceless relics? Dead rising, where you have to deal with the consequences of innocent people dying? FIGHTING GAMES? I cant think of one that doesn't allow you to beat up women? Christ what kind of misogynist are you... how do you find beating up women to be fun and entertaining?

Please explain: you want something that goes hand in hand with your shitty mood or something to get you out of it? If it's the former, go Spec Ops The Line or one of the earlier Max Payne games (although they may give you some thoughts of suicide). If it's the latter, something nice and casual like World of Goo should do the trick.

The Cat Lady. J/k.
Games with alot of texts can either be good if you can get involved with the story, but if it has long pauzes it might trigger your thinking, then it can be good to just pick a game where you don't have time to pauze.
I usually watch tv shows while playing games, so you have to focus on 2 things, then you really don't have the space to have bad thoughts.

maybe something very emotional that distracts you from your own emotions. like To The Moon.
and i think Undertale could be a really good one in such a case. it's a very positive game. might help.

Yes, something distrating would be a good choice. Funny games don't tend to work well if you're already feeling down. It's hard to go from one mood extreme to the other.
Try horror games, or maybe something difficult where you need to focus without thinking too much. Such as VVVVVV or bullet hell games.
