yep easiest non-solder option = buy crap new pair... or a non-crap pair that might not break so quick - Sennheiser HD215 I recommend for games/PCs.. (but a bit sweaty with the big pads after many hours play). If they are fairly new try to RMA.

It never happened before, however, I was using them only with my laptop for almost half a year, but today I plugged them to my iPod and the problem occured just after that.

It's not that they are switched, the sound that should be coming from the right speaker is coming from the left and there is only an 'echo' in the right

Turn your headphone around so the 'left' is on the 'right' ear.

I have figured out, that the problem is that volume in right speaker can't go beyond a certain point, so if I turn volume up, only the left is affected

Sounds like amplification is lost on one side. I may be wrong but I think sometimes speakers can work from the small signal in the cable even without being on.
Or, if there's something like an inline volume control, then it's somehow adjusting volume for the left and it's "stuck" for the right.

I have a very similar problem with my Sennheiser PC-360's. I picked them up, one day, and zapped the right ear with static electricity. Now, that ear is borked. I still need to have it repaired, but have no idea where to get them serviced. Somewhere in the greater Phoenix (Arizona) metropolitan area, anyway.

Have you tried unplugging them all the way and plugging them in ALL the way?
Try using a different audio source, might be your source.

The sound in the right ear is significantly more quiet than in the left. Also, I have noticed, that the left speaker plays the sound which should be played by the right. I tried pushing in and pulling out the plug a bit, but that didn't seem to work. It happens only with those heaphones on any device, so the problem isn't with sound card or the pc jack (or, I just think so). Does anyone know, how to solve that? Oh, and btw, I have cleaned them and the problem still occurs
Edit: When I use windows sound test, I hear only the sound in the left speaker
