Bad game key

On the distribution, I received the key to the game. The key was to be from the Snow Apocalypse game. I played the key, sent it to the winner, and the key turned out to be from another game. What should I do? What kind of ticket to create? Who should I write to?

Your 2 options are source another key for Snow Apocalypse or ask the winner of your giveaway for permission to delete the giveaway, if they do send a ticket in to admin.

I don't understand where you got the key from, but here are some options:

  1. Try to get a working key for the game you gave away, you have 7 days to deliver a working one
  2. Ask the winner if it's OK to delete the giveaway, create a ticket if he/she agrees
  3. Accept the Not Received and move on

I always make it a point to test my keys before posting, just in case I made a mistake. If you already own it, it will tell you what the game is, so that prevents this situation. I've had it happen when I was new too.

Good point, if you already have the game in your library, Steam wont let you add it again.

No, it doesn't. But if the game is not installed, and you try to activate the key through the client, what it does is that not only does it tell you that you already own it, it brings up the install screen, so you can tell exactly which game the key belongs to.

Yes and no. If you already own the game, it won't add it again, unless it's a different sub. For example, paradox games (train sim, cities skyline, crusader kings) have been known to bundle different versions of the game that will bind to account even if you own it, in what I assume is a slick way to cut down on key retrade/reselling. There are other examples of this, but it's very uncommon.

Yes, you are absolutely right, I have come across this myself as well. There are a few games I have in my account multiple times because of different bundle subs just because the secondary key activated the game plus some DLCs, etc. Thanks for pointing that out.
