You should be glad you quit before the scary part, then.

i abandoned the first game like an hour into the game because it was such a boring piece of grey offices crap with "scary" flashes

It's what I liked about it. Confined spaces and very slow paced gameplay. FEAR 3 feels like a speedrun. You can't even walk and the running speed is like twice as fast as FEAR 2. Every enemy encounter feels cheap because of that. Every time I'm like "who even cares, lets just run and gun everyone as if I was Rambo." Which is a pretty accurate analogy actually, since I seem to be unable to die in this game. I raised the difficulty to maximum, and I am still immortal due to regenerating health (whoever invented that nonsense needs to be spanked, hard.)
The game goes to great lengths in trying to make you feel like you're good at playing the game, even if you totally suck at it. It's that Special Olympics mentality of "everyone's a winner." No. If you suck at a game, you should bite the dust until you get better at it.
In FEAR 1 you took it slow, peeked corners and it felt very tense and dangerous. The scares, especially later in the game, made you crap your pants. It was like "Amnesia The Dark Descent" but with guns. Now it feels more like collecting coins in Super Mario Bros and an infinite health cheat.
I'm still going to finish it though, since I like the graphics and the overall presentation. But I can already tell that's it's going to be a very forgettable experience. I'm already a good bit into the game, but can't recall anything memorable at all.

Decent? Maybe. But it still isn't anything like the FEAR games...
They should have modified the story slightly and released it under another name, actually. :P

F3AR would have been a decent game if they'd called it FEAR 3 and made it more like the first two.

FEAR 3 shines in coop mode, had a lot of fun playing it with my friend. The coop is asymmetric, the first player can slow down time, while the second can possess enemies. It also have some competition elements (score system), which determines which character's ending you'll get.

I am disappoint. I played through 1 and 2, and liked them very much. In 2, I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of a walk key, but otherwise it was a nice shooter. Not much in a horror sense, but very moody, dark, "paranormally" and immersive.
I installed 3 today. Wow. This is the crappiest sequel to anything I ever played in the history of ever. You can't play this game like the other two. Weird disco-club blinking "headshot ultra master 100/100" nonsense pops up constantly. As if the designers of the game literally thought "let's annoy the player as much as possible and destroy the atmosphere and the setting that our asset designers worked so hard to create."
I want my $4 back!!!1
