I used to use it many many many years ago.But COMRAD sucks or whatever the name was,it was their new program or co-op program whatever confusing and retarded program imho. Xfire/Steam/Desura etc anytime ! ftw. GameSpy sucks since many years ago.

That's a shame. Fortunately Gamespy LAN functionality will continue to work without their servers so it's not a total trainsmash, but it's still not great news at all. Well, they had a good run.

Thank you must have seen that, even the clicky I did not see. I must have missed it even when I clicked on it.

I must say you work really fast. Congrats :-) and thank you for sharing :-).
It's sad to see Gamespy has to go.

I think the Gamespy match-making service was sold off a while back. There was some hoo-hah from Rebellion about discontinuing the multi-player from Sniper Elite 1 because it was no longer profitable to renew the license.

1UP is also being shut down.
Also layoffs at IGN.

Gamespy game service was actually sold off to another company a few years ago, IIRC. So it shouldn't affect games that use that service.

What games are affected anyway? Truly no more online gaming in these anymore? Sad. I wonder what will happen in the near future when the 1st server of a game that has online DRM will shut down?

lool, iam 32..and not such a nerd to know every game service or whatever :)

It's hard to believe that you haven't heard even remotely of Gamespy since it's been one of the most popular game services and quite a number of games have used it, especially in the past. And that "such a nerd" stuff is quite a paradox. You are on a site that's about Steam games including : Giving, receiving, discussing. And you're 32 ... You need to reestablish your ideas on what "Such a nerd" actually means.

Not every older game, at least not until after Mplayer and WON.net and various others disappeared. I think GameSpy was the last of their kind.
Reminds you of CompuServe, doesn't it?

I'm not sure, but when I tried to create new accounts in Crysis Wars or Unreal 3 some months ago (some site like gamespyid.com) it was redirected to IGN and I did not find any option to actually create a Gamespy id, only a (useless) IGN account. I guess it was sold to IGN but the service has been in a very bad state for years now. Me and my friends rather played Boderlands 1 via Hamachi than this laggy crap.
I liked the site though. At least some years ago I was a regular reader over there.
And I liked their game of the year lists and their Planet *** sites. Farewell Gamespy!

"GameSpy, as we know it, began in 1999. Today, 14 years later, it has reached the end of the road. We had a good run, and we want to sincerely thank all of you for reading and joining in discussions with us. It's been fantastic."
The continuation is here.
I wonder if the gamespy servers will be also shut down ( Aka for Borderlands 1 and other games who uses it )
