This is actually a fairly common occurrence. Most of the time it happens while the content is still being created though. Not so much after it is released. Good game, I liked it. Name change matters not and am glad they took the better path of changing it anyways. Now it sort of fits into a theme, or maybe a sequence of events that was supposed to happen anyways.

True. Only game I can think of that had that happen was Sierra's Heroes Quest, which became Quest for Glory for all sequels & re-releases to avoid conflict with Games Workshop's Hero Quest.
Although probably some of the games that have different name by region are also due to this

I would never have guessed, they look totally different.
Is it me or There Came an Echo visually looks quite like Transistor ?

I'll have you know that the board game Sequence is a lot of fun :P
That's crazy to know the two games are related though, I wouldn't have guessed that

There Came an Echo is apparently best played using only voice command (it's main shtick). I want to play it but I already have trouble gtting people to understand me, I'm just dreading what the game will think of my commands XD.

Oh another lame board game forces a video game to change its name just like they did with Iron Brigade since it was originally called Trenched.

Yeah, I told my friend this because I went to sequence forums to see if it had a sequel announced yet, and realized the sequel came out a month ago and was a different game with a different name. lol

Saw the announcement with the apology about the confusion a while ago. Before the name change I had no idea it was a sequel, I thought it was just a new game of theirs. They replied to someone saying it's a direct narrative continuation of the events that take place in Sequence, so that made me even more interested (curious to see how the voice mechanics work out, too, obviously).

It's kinda annoying that they had to change their name. In the credits of the game there's a video from the developers. They stated in that, that they wanted to keep it a secret that it was a sequel. And I can see why. It was a big surprise to me when I was playing it and it's better this way. But because of the name change this kinda reveals it. I guess it was logical for them to change the name to that though.
Also the game is amazing and really fun and also has a great story to do with sequence. Definitely recommend it!

Yep. But I guess they don't care about that anymore since they changed the name. It might actually help it sell more though if people know this!

Sequence changed its name to Before the Echo, due to a legal claim from a board game company that has a game called Sequence. Kinda crap.
What's more interesting, is that There Came an Echo is actual a sequel to the events in Sequence, albeit a completely different genre. I wasn't interested in the game before, but I am now, because I loved Sequence.
