So, did Capcom ring the bell for that palette swapped Chun Li asset theft yet?

There's a difference between a visual parody/knock-off and actual asset theft. I'd be PRETTY confident no Capcom game has used this actual sprite. (Though, that doesn't mean they couldn't still go after somebody for the design.)

The visual likeness of these characters is actually trademarked. It may sound extreme, but think of how Apple managed to put a patent on "inventing" a rectangle with rounded corners. Using something for parody purposes can be a good leeway that large companies really like to disregard (hence the eternal battle of video reviewers and film/game companies, even though their material is clearly under fair use), but this here is way too close to comfort.

Oh, I'm not arguing that at all. I'm just saying it's not asset theft. Just unlicensed appropriation of a likeness. An asset is a specific, individual piece of media used within a game, like a sound effect, song, sprite, bit of code, animation, etc. If the company never produced that specific asset, it's not stolen - but that definitely doesn't rule out other legal wrinkles.

Well, the SF Alpha series had tons of sprites, including frontal shots. I am not 100% sure it is not at least a direct tracing of one.

To be fair, it is quite possible you're right!

The poses and clothes looks more like a nod to Jam from Guilty Gear.

Many females in fighting games have this pose. Chun Li does as well, I remember it even from the Street Fighter comic book series from UDON. But I think it pops up even in some SNK games and maybe even in BlazBlue somewhere. I assume it is an actual fighting pose in some style since even some kung fu movies used it.
