which is better for games and downloads?
Never heard of powerline adapters prior to your post, from my honest experience wi-fi can be shitty when it comes to downloading, i prefer to do it by an ethernet cable.

That provides both wifi correctly (not a repeater) all around the same line, and ethernet connection x2. specs of all the range (this time imgur didn't troll me)
You can clone router's wifi configuration with this hardware, you get same connectio name and pass and stable wifi all around.

Powerline adapters are literally the same as using a direct ethernet connection, it suffers from very minimal degradation. For the love of all that is holy, avoid wifi at all costs. I'm not sure what your situation is, but network switches also work wonders if you're just limited on space for ethernet connections.

How close are you going to be to the router? How many walls inbetween? How fast will your internet connection be?
I've had no troubles maintaining a stable 50mbps internet connection with a modest Wireless N router (WNDR3300 I got years ago for $25-30 as a refurb) across a couple of rooms. For 100mbps+ links, you're going to be going into 802.11ac territory and 5GHz has a harder time penetrating walls. Not to mention 802.11ac routers are very expensive.

Two walls shouldn't be a problem for all but the worst of WiFi routers (2005-era D-link G router?). Not sure why everyone else here has had so many problems with WiFi. I've literally only used wireless connectivity for Internet for the past 7-8 years. If you happen to have a router around, it wouldn't hurt seeing how it works before spending money on powerline adapters. Just my $0.02.

I didn't know what powerline was either, turns out that's what I'm using though haha. Never knew about it until fairly recently when I got foxtel and the box came with 2 powerline adapters. When I cancelled foxtel I couldn't remember if they had come with foxtel or my internet modem and they didn't mention anything about them so I kept them and never heard from them. Powerline is good though, I haven't had any issues at all with it whereas when I was using wireless it kept dropping out when I was only like a room away.

WiFi is good for websites and small downloads. It's not stable enough for online gaming or bigger downloads like 50GB of GTA V. So I would choose powerline.

Wifi has a decrease with distance... cables do not (not something that you can feel anyway).

its a new cable network (new housing unit), Ethernet aint an option as i dont have permission to drill the walls (wifi is on the main house)
so its ether wifi or powerline.

Ethernet > PLC > Wifi
Only use wifi for browsing. It has a lot of latency and instability for any other use.

Both wifi and powerline can have their cons based on infrastructure (walls, devices connected to power grid) and the neighbour-situation( the channels-fight), but cause powerline is less popular...you likely have less problems with that.

well i guess it depends on the quality of the power cables i guess
for me i live in a very old house and the wiring is old as f... so the powerline wasnt an option.
but i know some guys that are very happy with it

im moving apartment...and i will have to use or WiFi or power line internet, so i guess i need to know from your experience and knowledge which is better for games and downloads?
and if your are using them what gear you recommend to set them up?
